                          Cake     Sign

The Sanborn Central Horizons II Graduation Celebration was held on Saturday, July 26th at the 4-H Building in Forestburg. Pizza was served and the Extension staff brought cake to celebrate the accomplishments made through the Horizons II project.

The laptop computer and printer were presented and will be housed at the Letcher Library, along with the digital camera. Anyone wanting to use the equipment should contact Mary Ackman at 248-2242.

A check for the remaining $8,500 was received from the Northwest Area Foundation. Also, each of our three communities received two Horizons signs to put up in our community.

Marketing Our Towns

Sunday, April 27th, 2008

At the marketing seminar in Armour, one of the questions we were asked was, “What do we want to be known for?” Milan Wall told us to find something special and unique about our communities and develop a slogan that people could associate with each of our towns. With a lot of help from Martha (thanks, Martha!) these are the slogans we came up with for each town:

      Artesian               Forestburg               Letcher

Street Project

Santel Aids Community Fundraising

Sunday, March 9th, 2008

 Santel Communications

As part of the Cooperative Principles, Santel Communications supports area communities, always striving to give back to the members who support their cooperative.

Exchange communities have the opportunity to apply for a $500 annual Santel donation for an approved community project.

Forestburg, Artesian and Letcher were all awarded community donations. Forestburg’s was requested by the Community Development Corporation to be used for the street repair project. Artesian will put the money towards the placement of new street signs. The Letcher Community Development Foundation requested the donation to construct a grill and fire pit at the Letcher Park.

All three of the projects listed above are part of the goals that were set in the Sanborn Central Horizons Strategic Plan.

Goals for the New Year

Work is underway on Goal One—Objective Four, which is repaving Forestburg’s Main Street. Horizons II members (Sue Dise, Velma Kneen, Dottie Zoss, Doug & Elma Nurnberg and Margo Edwards) served on a steering committee to set goals for the village of Forestburg. Road repair was the first issue. In November, volunteers filled potholes on Main Street and Corliss Avenue in Forestburg.

On December 8th, the Forestburg Community Development Corporation held a rifle raffle and community meal at Doren’s Bar. Robert and Velma Kneen donated two turkeys that were deep fried and DeWayne Edwards did the carving. Door prizes were given away and the meal was enjoyed by many people before the raffle drawing. The winner of the raffle was Chuck McIntyre from Brandon. Over $1,300.00 was raised from this event.

Planning will begin in February for the next fundraiser, which will be Bingo at the 4-H Building in Forestburg. Check back here for more information.
