Creating a Plan and Taking Action

Horizons Meeting   Community Goals

Pictured are members of the Sanborn Central Strategic Planning Committee at the first planning meeting.  At this meeting the community goals were written.

In answer to the January blog questions regarding Category 10 - Building skills and mobilizing around community:

1. How has your community changed since joining Horizons?

Since joining Horizons, community members have become more positive about the future of all three communities (Artesian, Forestburg, and Letcher).

2. Is your community more hopeful about the future? How do you know?

As residents see the changes that are happening because of the Horizons program, they have more hope for the future. At our last meeting the comment was made that “no one thinks our towns are dying anymore.”

3. What evidence do you have that community members see poverty as a community issue?

People have been more aware of families and individuals in need and have been very generous, especially during the holidays.

4. Are more people involved in creating ideas, plans and taking actions on behalf of the community? What difference does this make?

Committees are being formed and meetings are being scheduled to implement the goals that were set when the Strategic Plan was created.

5. What new partnerships have been created (within your community, or between your community and others)?

This has given us the opportunity to get to know each other better and blogging has given us the chance to communicate with other Horizons communities.
