WiFi Hotspot—Drawing Travelers in from the Highway!
A WiFi hotspot (Internet availability for laptops and notebooks) in your local cafe, convenience store, or community center may increase the customer base for your local businesses. Many of the users will be business people who may be impressed with your community. By visiting briefly with them, you may find may a source for new ideas or an information source for what worked to develop their community.
Some WiFi hotspots are free but others charge a connection fee which helps pay for the monthly cost of the Internet from the ISP and even may be a small source of revenue. You can be creative in pricing so that students and local people may have a low fee if any.
The costs locally for a WiFi hotspot are less than $500 at this time. You may have a local tech person who can greatly reduce the cost.
Different sites on the Internet list the location of hotspots across the United States. Travelers may plan to visit your site.

Harry,
Does your community have a Wi-Fi hotspot? Is this something that your community is pursuing?

Cheryl,
Sanborn Central Horizons II communities currently do not have a Wi-Fi hotspot. Having one for each town is something to consider as an objective in our Nov. 4th meeting.
